Product Types

Users can perform the following under Product Types:

  • Create product types

  • Modify product types

  • Deactivate product types

  • Activating product types

Creating Product Types

Users can create a new product type by performing the following steps:

Click Setup Product Product Types.

Click the Create New button. The New Product Types page appears.

Refer to the following table and fill in the fields:

Field

Description

Product Type

Enter a name for the product type of items sold. For the sake of convenience, Product Types are patterned after sales accounts, menu categories, or according to groups the user wants to create for analysing sales data.

Code

Enter a unique code for the product type.

Sales Account

The user has the option to post sales of different product types to different sales account codes. These are default codes for all products within a type. However, the user can make exceptions for certain products at individual product level. Therefore, the sales account codes, to some extent, influence the product types. It must be noted that before assigning products to product types, the necessary sales account codes must already exist in Eatec Chart of Accounts.

Tax 1

This tax field retrieves data from Tax Rates. This way, the user must be able to track the tax liability with respect to different taxing authorities using the account code. If posting restaurant sales through POS, the POS system controls the tax rates.

Tax 2

This tax field retrieves data from Tax Rates. This way, the user must be able to track the tax liability with respect to different taxing authorities using the account code. If posting restaurant sales through POS, the POS system controls the tax rates.

Is Receipt

Flag that allows users to enable/disable the receipt.

Division

This field is used to assign the product type to Food and Beverage or Retail.

Markup %

Enter the markup percentage for the product type.

Export

flag that allows users to enable/disable exporting for the product.

Is Active

Flag that indicates whether the product type is active or inactive. By default, this flag appears toggled on (active) when creating a product type and cannot be toggled off. This flag can be toggled off to deactivate the product type when opened for modification. Once toggled off, the deactivated product type will be displayed on the Product Types page only if the Show Active Only flag is toggled off.

Click Create.

Modifying Product Types

Users can modify existing product types by performing the following steps:

Click the ellipsis under Actions corresponding to the preferred product type.

Click Edit. The Edit Product Types page appears.

Modify the required details.

Click Update.

Deactivating Product Types

Users can deactivate existing product types by performing the following steps:

Click the ellipsis under Actions corresponding to the preferred product type.

Click Deactivate. The system prompts the user to confirm the deactivation.

Click Confirm.

Activating Product Types

Users can activate a deactivated product type by performing the following steps:

Toggle off the Show Active Only flag to view the deactivated product type. The deactivated product types appear.

Select a deactivated product type.

Click Activate. The system prompts the user to confirm the activation.

Click Confirm.
